Open call · Chiang Mai · August 2026
Looking for makers (and maker spaces) in Chiang Mai
Miles finished his first hardware robot competition. The next step isn’t only more parts — it’s people and places. If you know a club, workshop, open night, or a family with a kid who likes to make things, we want to hear from you.
Where this started
In early August 2026, Miles entered a sumo-style robot competition in Chiang Mai (EasyKids Robotics). He built a remote-controlled bot around an Arduino Uno, learned the hard way about motors and batteries, and got something into the ring. We’re proud of that — and we’re documenting the technical side on this site.
What the day really highlighted: making is better with a community. Tutorials help. Peers, mentors, and a place to go on a regular basis help more.

What we’re looking for
Places
Maker spaces, fab labs, robotics clubs, electronics shops with workshops, 3D-print hangouts, kid-friendly classes, open nights, or informal meetups in (or near) Chiang Mai. Even “we meet at someone’s garage on weekends” counts.
People
Other kids who like robots, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, 3D printing, soldering, or just taking things apart. Parents and mentors who want low-pressure make-togethers are very welcome too.
We’ve also heard that Chiang Mai may not have a full public makerspace right now. If that’s wrong — or if something small still runs under the radar — we want the correction. If it’s true, we’re open to learning how communities elsewhere keep maker hangouts alive so we can do something simple here for kids and families.
Sunday afternoons
Our default window
Sunday afternoons work well for our family. That’s the time we’re aiming for casual hangouts: bring a project, try a kit, swap ideas, or help each other debug. Not a formal school — more like open studio time for Miles and friends.
What ChiangMaiStudio is doing about it
We’re building ChiangMaiStudio.com as a shared family project:
- A place to document Miles and Mike’s maker journey in public
- Over time, a simple directory of creator and maker spaces in Chiang Mai
- An open door for other families who want to connect
If you send us a space, club, or class worth knowing, we’ll add it to that map as we grow it.
How to reach us
Know a place, a person, or a family who might want a Sunday afternoon make session? Point us their way — a name, a link, a map pin, or an intro is enough.

This post is a public open call. We’re asking friends and the wider maker world the same question: where do kids and families build together in Chiang Mai?
Got a lead?
Spaces, clubs, workshops, or maker kids for Sunday afternoons — we’re all ears. Help us fill the map and fill the room.
