How the robotics club works

This is an open build club. Each young maker can bring a project they care about, work on it alongside other kids, and share useful things they discover. You do not have to build the same robot as everyone else.

Main language: English. Club conversations, shared instructions, and group activities will mainly use clear English. Every language background is welcome.

Your project, with a community around you

A club meeting is shared project time. One student might be building a small car, another might be testing a sensor, and someone else might be repairing an older robot. Everyone has their own goal, but nobody has to work alone.

Kids can show one another a useful video, wiring diagram, code example, tool technique, or lesson they discovered themselves. Sharing information is encouraged, but each builder remains responsible for making decisions about their own project.

Choose the option that fits your project. Final prices and availability will be confirmed before registration; we will not charge for something that is not ready.

Bring Your Own Project

Bring everything you need and use the club as your build community.

Good for you if:

  • You already have a kit, project, parts, and basic plan.
  • You can work fairly independently.
  • You mainly want a table, community, and other young makers to learn with.
What is included

Shared meeting space, community help, project check-ins, and basic club facilities.

Proposed price: free for the basic club option, subject to the host space confirming its costs and rules.

Materials Support

Bring your idea, and request the parts or materials needed to move it forward.

Good for you if:

  • You have started a project but are missing specific parts.
  • You need help making a practical shopping list.
  • You want a prepared materials pack for an agreed project step.
What is included

An agreed set of project materials prepared or ordered before the meeting. General peer support is also available.

Price: depends on the requested parts. A parent approves the list and cost before anything is ordered.

Specialist Guidance

Work with an adult robotics mentor who knows the tools and technology your project requires.

This could include:

  • Help planning a project from the beginning.
  • Step-by-step teaching for unfamiliar electronics, code, or tools.
  • Guidance when a project needs knowledge beyond normal peer support.
Why it is unavailable

We have not yet found a suitable adult who can safely teach robotics to children. We will open this option only when the right mentor and supervision are confirmed.

No bookings or payments yet. Families can register their interest, but this option is not currently offered.

What happens during a club meeting?

The proposed meeting is a two-hour after-school session once a week. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are possible days; the final day and exact start time still need to be agreed with Bloom.

    Each builder says what they are making and the one thing they want to accomplish.

    Projects, batteries, tools, and work areas are checked before building begins.

    Kids work on their projects, test ideas, and ask others for information or a second opinion.

    Share a discovery

    Anyone can briefly show a useful solution, failure, resource, or fact they found.

    Record the next step

    Builders write down what changed, what they need next, and what they will bring next time.

    Safe cleanup

    Power is disconnected, batteries and tools are counted, and every project is packed safely.

What kids and parents should know

Who the first group is for

  • Approximately six students to begin
  • Approximately ages 10–13
  • Mainly English-speaking meetings
  • Beginners and experienced young makers are both welcome

What each student brings

  • A labeled container holding their project and parts
  • Instructions, diagrams, code, and build notes
  • A charged laptop and approved power supply, if needed
  • One clear goal for that meeting

What parents handle

  • Registration and accurate emergency contact details
  • Permission forms and arrival/collection arrangements
  • Approval of any materials list and cost
  • Disclosure of allergies, accessibility needs, or other important safety information

Supervision and safety

  • An approved adult must be present for every meeting
  • Dangerous or unfamiliar equipment requires permission before it is brought
  • The club may refuse an unsafe project, battery, tool, or activity
  • Peer advice never replaces an adult safety decision

Costs

  • Bring Your Own Project is proposed as the free basic option
  • Materials Support costs depend on the approved parts requested
  • Room costs, if any, are still being discussed with Bloom
  • No payment is accepted for Specialist Guidance while it remains unavailable

What is still being confirmed

  • The final weekday and after-school start time
  • Whether students from outside Bloom may join
  • Storage, room fees, and school procedures
  • Whether Bloom knows a suitable robotics mentor

Students choose their own projects. The club provides a place to build, exchange ideas, and learn from one another’s mistakes; it does not guarantee that every project will be completed during a meeting.

How to prepare your project

Before attending, send a short project description through a parent or guardian.

Bring

  • A charged laptop, if needed
  • Power supplies or batteries approved for the project
  • Instructions, diagrams, code, and notes

  • Anything you do not want mixed with shared supplies

Ask before bringing: soldering tools, cutting tools, large batteries, mains-voltage equipment, chemicals, hot tools, or anything that could injure someone. Unapproved hazardous equipment cannot be used at the club.

Helping each other responsibly

Helpful sharing

  • Explain what worked on your own project.
  • Share a trustworthy diagram, guide, or tutorial.
  • Help someone test one change at a time.
  • Say when you are unsure.

What peer help is not

  • Taking over and building someone else’s project.
  • Guessing about dangerous wiring or batteries.
  • Claiming to be an expert when you are not.
  • Ignoring an adult safety decision.

Another child’s suggestion is a starting point, not a safety guarantee. Adult supervision and club safety rules still apply to every project and every option.

How to participate

  1. Choose an option. Bring Your Own Project or Materials Support.
  2. Send the project details. A parent or guardian shares the builder’s age, contact information, English comfort level, robotics interests, demo availability, and project needs.
  3. Wait for confirmation. We check that the project fits the available space, tools, supervision, and safety rules.
  4. Approve any materials. A parent reviews the parts list and price before we order anything.
  5. Come prepared. Bring the labeled project, required equipment, notes, and a clear goal for the session.
  6. Build and share. Work on your project, help where you can, and share one useful thing you learned.

Help a young maker keep building

Support projects with tools, materials, or Thai baht

Donations can provide approved materials packs, replace broken shared tools, and help students who cannot afford every part themselves. Financial contributions must go through a responsible adult and will be recorded for club use.

We are looking for the right adult mentor

Could you help open the specialist option?

We are interested in meeting a patient, English-speaking adult with real experience in youth education and robotics, electronics, programming, or safe workshop practice. Any future mentor would need approval from the responsible adults and host organization before working with students.
